Lightroom Tutorial | Changing the crop overlay

The video below has my “1st” of many Lightroom Tutorials. I plan to share a short video talking about a specific action regularly. This week we will be touching on the Crop Overlay Tool. How can I change it?

There are many reasons why you may want to change the tool, but the main one I can think of is to help out with different compositional elements. Move away from the rule of thirds and try to compose an image to one of the other “rules”

Going in a new direction

I’ve decided that my blog will be heading in a new direction

I’m going to focus my future blog posts on tutorials and particularly Lightroom.

I originally started my blog to help out my writing skills. I have tried to focus on sharing some of my thought processes were for capturing photos. I have found that as the years have passed I am actually doing more video tutorials.

The video tutorials are also getting more attention on Youtube, driving more traffic to my website. From today on I am planning to share video tutorials.

I will do my best to address questions and requests. read more

McHenry County Photographers Landscape Photo Contest

A few days ago I ended a small contest. The rules were simple, submit your best color landscape photo from the past year. The contest was open to those who joined our new group of McHery County Photographers on Facebook. Well as it turns out I couldn’t pick a winner. All of the photos that were submitted were stellar. I had a hard time just choosing one. Maybe if they were black and white it might have made things easier for me, but alas it wasn’t. So I decided to let fate choose. I entered the names in a raffle and randomly drew a winner. read more

Lightroom Export to WordPress Tutorial

A few weeks ago the folks at Automattic (better know as the WordPress company) released a plugin for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. This plugin lets you export directly from Lightroom to your WordPress media gallery.

This saves a step in my Lightroom workflow. As you know I want to be as efficient as possible, so I will take anything that lets me remove a step.

Camera 1 Workshop POV

The video below shows the Camera 1 Workshop Leyla and I attended last fall.

I shot the video using my GoPro Hero 4 which I mounted to the top of my Fuji XE-1. At some points you can see me focusing the Minolta 55mm f1.4 lens which I love on the Fuji. Leyla got to use my Sony A7 during the class. Speaking of classes, Nancy Merkling hosts some wonderful workshops. Make sure to check them out, they are sure to improve your photography I am lucky enough to teach two.

This year I plan to take a lot more workshops. I want to improve my video editing. I hope to travel more. I have set up a new Facebook Group, after experimenting on Slack and finding that it just didn’t work for most of us. read more

Below is a short video tutorial on using an action I found on DIY Photography blog.

I forgot to mention in the video that you need to download and add the action to Photoshop prior to animation.

After downloading I simply clicked the action and Photoshop opened and added the action automatically.

Don’t forget that I have the Adobe Creative Cloud and only tested this on the most recent version of Photoshop. You mileage may vary. 🙂 read more

New Video | Starline Flash Mob | Premiere Pro

Below is a brand new video. I created it at the last 4th Fridays held at the Starline Gallery. It has Leyla participating in the flash mob that entertained the crowd. Forgive some of the video edits, this was my first time putting a video together using Premiere Pro. I used my GoPro Hero 4 Silver with a 3 axis gimbal to capture footage. Hope you like it. Opening a box from KEH.

In the video below. I am doing something simple. I am Opening a box from KEh. Would you like to find out what was in the box? Would you like to know what I ordered from KEH? I’ll give you a little hint. It is a new camera body. Is it digital or film? Can I use it with equipment I already have? You have to watch the video to find out.

I am impressed with KEH’s rating. This was supposed to be a bargain camera, it is a great deal. Much better than I could have imagined. Thanks KEH!

Now that the Nik collection is free, I wanted to share how to actually access it inside of Lightroom CC. It is a bit different than how you would use a preset, but more like how to edit in Photoshop CC from Lightroom.
